How Big do Maine Coons get?An adult male Maine Coon could weigh as much as 10-12kg. A female is generally smaller and would probably only get to around 8-9kg and they all take up to 4-5 years to mature to this size. Our male Maine Coons are bigger than our dogs!

How much will a Maine Coon eat?Maine Coons are a big breed of cat, but they are not excessive eaters and you probably wont notice any different eating habbits to other breeds of cats. We always feed quality food and you will find the better the quality of food the healthier and more satisfied your cat will be. Maine Coons should always have access to a quality brand of dried food as they will tend to snack all day.

Will a Maine Coon fit into our family? Are they good with children? Our Grumpy Granddad "Barloo" male Maine Coon has been part of our family for the past 14 years. He was our first Maine Coon and our children were 5 & 3yrs old when he entered our life, and I was pregnant with our 3rd child. Maine Coons are chilled and relaxed cats, they will seek out your company and want to be part of the family. They are fabulous with children and none of our kittens have escaped paying dress-up! Our kittens tolerate being dressed in a nightgown, wrapped in a blanket and put to bed in the dolls cot.

Will a Maine Coon get on well with my other pets? All animals are different, but a Maine Coon cat is a very easy going creature. Of course you need to introduce new animals and even babies to your Maine Coon responsibly, but you will probably find that they might pout and sulk during the adjustment period and then they will get over it! Most people find that one Maine Coon is never enough and before you know it you will have whole gang living happily together. They love animal company and will happily befriend dogs and other animals too.

Is the Aussie summer too hot for a Maine Coon?We live in Queensland and have had no problems with the summer heat. Not all Maine Coons have a huge long fluffy coat, some kittens have less fluff! If you are in a hotter area you may consider requesting a kitten with a shorter coat. Either way you will find that your Maine Coon will park itself under the airconditioner and be content to stay there! No Aircond? No Worries - fans and a BIG dish of water are just fine too. Maine Coons love water and you will often find them paddling and emptying their water bowls, ours love water so much they have their own ponds complete with fish for splashing, standing and playing in the water.

The cost of the flights is an additional charge. All you need to do is go to the airport and pick up your baby. Do I have to keep my Maine Coon inside? All cats need to be contained as per your local government rules. We suggest that all cats should be kept indoors, this is the safest place for them. All of our kittens are litter tray trained. However Maine Coons LOVE the outdoors, where possible you should consider providing them with a secure outdoor area where they can laze in the sunshine and play with leaves.
